Fivetran points to progress after dbt Labs merger

Fivetran said it improved in both Ability to Execute and Completeness of Vision in this year’s report. The company said the assessment supports the strategy behind its merger with dbt Labs, which brought together data movement, transformation, activation, and business context.

Fivetran and dbt Labs completed the merger on June 1, 2026, and now operate as Fivetran + dbt Labs. The combined offering is underpinned by Fivetran’s Managed Data Lake and is designed to help customers move data from source systems, turn it into tested models, define consistent business metrics, and use it across business applications and AI.

Fivetran said the platform also supports visual development and AI-assisted workflows while preserving customers’ choice of data platforms and tools.

A broader foundation for analytics and AI

The company’s argument is that data integration for AI involves more than moving information between systems. Teams also need reliable models, consistent definitions, and context that explains where data came from, how it was transformed, and which business rules apply.

Fivetran said its platform includes more than 750 managed connectors, alongside a Connector SDK for custom development. Fivetran Activations delivers data into business tools, while dbt provides a framework to develop, test, document, and maintain transformations.

Other capabilities include dbt’s semantic features for consistent metrics and definitions, the Fivetran Context Layer for making business context available to AI, and dbt State, which uses awareness of changes in source data and models to avoid unnecessary transformation work.

Fivetran said enterprises including Snowflake, HubSpot, Zendesk, Fanatics, and Cisco combine Fivetran with dbt to prepare data and context once, then reuse them across analytics and AI.

AI assistance and an open infrastructure strategy

Fivetran also highlighted AI features shipped across its platform. According to the company, dbt Wizard can generate, refactor, and document dbt models using project context such as lineage, tests, and documentation. The AI Connector Agent can build connectors from a URL and API documentation, while coding agent plugins for Claude Code and Codex support developers building custom connectors with the Connector SDK.

The company said its open approach is intended to let data move when, where, and how customers need it. Fivetran + dbt Labs is investing in open source communities including dbt v2 and Great Expectations, as well as open standards such as Apache Iceberg and Agents Schema. It also partners with AWS, Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure, Databricks, Snowflake, Salesforce, and Oracle.

For users, the company says the combined platform can provide current, tested data and reusable business definitions as new models, engines, and agents arrive.
