Tokyo office supports regional expansion
Replit announced the Tokyo office on Nov. 4, 2026, at a press conference held with SMFL. The opening follows the company's London office launch in September and extends its physical presence beyond its San Francisco headquarters.
SMFL is Replit's first enterprise customer in Japan and has operating assets of 9 trillion yen ($57 billion). The event featured Replit co-founders Amjad Masad and Haya Odeh, along with SMFL President Tetsuro Imaeda.
Replit said its enterprise business is gaining momentum worldwide, with customers including Accenture, Visa, Ernst & Young and PricewaterhouseCoopers already building with the platform. The company describes its product as an agentic software creation platform that enables people to build applications without learning code.
SMFL partnership highlights claimed productivity gains
Replit and SMFL are expanding their partnership to help companies across Asia create custom software. According to Replit, one SMFL employee completed a project in one week that previously required six people over six months.
Masad said, “Opening our first office in Asia is a milestone for us.” He described the collaboration as an example of how AI can change the way companies operate. Masad also said Replit believes in a “Self-Driving Company,” where AI agents handle more execution work while security and controls remain built in.
Imaeda said combining Replit's platform with SMFL's enterprise expertise could help companies build applications faster. He also said the partnership could make SMFL's cloud-based asset management service, “assetforce,” a more tailored solution for enterprise customers with complex, company-specific requirements.
Replit applies its AI strategy internally
Replit said it is already applying its Self-Driving Company approach within its own operations. During the first half of 2026, the company's engineers nearly tripled their code output, according to Replit. Designers are using AI to ship product changes, while support teams are using agents to investigate issues.
The company said security and governance become critical as AI takes on more responsibilities. That focus is also central to its enterprise expansion, where Replit is positioning its platform for organizations that need to build and scale applications.
Replit said its platform is used by builders at 85% of Fortune 500 companies and that it has more than 60 million users worldwide. Teams at Atlassian, Accenture, Adobe and Databricks use Replit to build apps, while the company has partnerships with Google, Stripe and Slack, among others. The Tokyo office gives Replit a base for extending these capabilities to businesses in Japan and across Asia.
